Developing Global Gamechangers: A Journey Through Academia and Consulting
In this session, Strategy Tools founder Christian Rangen interviews global thought leader Peter Fisk and his journey to becoming one of the world’s top strategy and innovation advisors, sought-after keynote speaker, as well as award-winning author of 10 books.
3 Key Takeaways:
- When writing a book, look for an angle which is distinct and fresh, yet with substance – avoid theoretical concepts about possibilities but focus on what is achievable. Find a publisher before you write a book as they bring with them distribution power. Lastly, write the book in a way that is accessible to people – codify into patterns and models and thinking.
- Being able to ask where you’re going, rather than where you’re coming from is important – when working with executive teams, Peter spends time working from the future back. Get people to share their views in terms of the future, then compare it to the company today and figure out the strategic gap that needs to be filled.
- When asking questions – set a context which allows the person to think bigger, consider the polarizing dimensions. It is powerful if your question can help them consider the bigger system-based context.

Building Expertise & Your Sims Sales Pipeline in 2023
In this panel session, Roberto Chaverri leads the discussion around how practitioners are using strategy simulations to create impact in different verticals across the globe, including in education, finance, and banking.
3 Key Takeaways
- To harness the full power of the strategy simulations, it is important to start with the context and challenges the participants are currently facing and plan the sessions from that standpoint. This allows for a maximized learning experience, and makes it easier for participants to understand new concepts through the experiential learning.
- Strategy Tools simulations is all about creating stories and content that makes sense for your client or the participants – just bringing stories or examples that are relevant to the industry will help participants apply the different concepts that they learned throughout the simulation. Experienced facilitators often have a library of good cases and stories to bring up at the right moment.
- Practice – experiment – and running as many simulations as you can will make you a more effective facilitator
