Cluster Accelerator Map
Today, most Innovation Clusters work on entrepreneurship and scale-ups. But how should an Innovation Cluster work with accelerators? Most clusters have a very limited understanding of relevant accelerators, how they work or what makes them successful.
Should we build and operate our own accelerator program? Should we export our startups to other programs in other countries? Or, should we partner with other accelerator programs, locally or globally?
The Cluster Accelerator Map gives Innovation Clusters the tool to develop their accelerator strategy.

Main Outcomes
Understand Accelerators
The Cluster Accelerator Map helps cluster management teams, and their innovation groups understand how accelerators work, how they are different, and what makes an accelerator interesting.
Build Your Accelerator Strategy
Using the Map, the cluster team can proactively build their own Accelerator Strategy. Should we export our startups to other programs – often out of the country? Should we partner with accelerator programs, either locally or globally? Should we build, run and operate our own program? Those questions will be answered using the Cluster Accelerator Map.
Better Services to Your Startups & Scale-ups
The long-term outcome will be a better, more professional service offering to startup and scale-up members in your cluster. A successful Accelerator Strategy can have a significant positive impact on the long-term development of your Innovation Cluster.
Use Case: Norway’s Innovation Clusters
With 34 national innovation clusters, Norway has extensive experience building successful innovation clusters. But when it comes to making use of accelerator programs, few clusters have really grasped the potential yet.
Working closely with many of the Norwegian clusters, a pattern emerges, a few of them have a fully developed strategic understanding of getting the most out of accelerator programs.
Using the Cluster Accelerator Map, we have helped cluster managers understand their strategic options; Export, Partnership or Build.
Today, the first ten clusters are developing a more robust and thought-through cluster strategy. Some prefer Export (to Level 39 in London, or MIT), some prefer Partnership (Hatch, Techstars, Accel Seafood) while others prefer to Build (Smart City, Solar, Tunnel).
What would be the right Accelerator Strategy for your cluster?
